“We are Micaela and Jose Jimenez and we have been a part of the St. Charles Borromeo (SCB) family since 2014. Our children Angel, Maya, and Octavio have all attended SCB since kindergarten, and I do not think we could have given them a better academic start if we tried. When we started to investigate schools for our son to attend kindergarten at, we were at a loss. We knew that the public schools in our area were not what we wanted. It was the referral of our son’s Godparents that brought us knocking on St. Charles’s door. Their children were all enrolled there, and we had the privilege of watching them grow in their faith, and hear all about their wonderful academic experiences. We wanted that for our children too, so we decided to make SCB our home. Nothing could have prepared us for the family that we gained by choosing SCB as our home away from home. From kinder orientation with Mrs. Werner giving us her cell phone number and telling us that if we ever needed anything to text her. To our principal Mrs. Perez calling on a Sunday to talk about the kids. With such a close-knit community every teacher knows every student by name, and just because that student moves on in grade does not mean they are forgotten.
With the year that we are currently experiencing (2020) and the immediate shut down in March, I watched as the schools around me shuffled to try and put something in place for their students. I have seen months go by with students having nothing to do and losing out on valuable learning. I never once worried about my children. SCB closed on a Friday, and every child was sent home with or mailed packets of work. We were on Zoom that following week for classes, and still attending mass every Friday via Zoom as a school. Were there kinks to work out? Yes, however, everyone on staff was all hands-on deck making sure that our children’s academic and spiritual education never faltered.
We would pick SCB repeatedly and we hope that you will too.
